Ohne Zweifel ist ditgitale Malerei inzwischen zu einer anerkannten Kunstrichtung geworden. Doch ist es wirklich Kunst, sich an den Computer zu setzen und ein Bild zu produzieren? Es gibt doch so viele Tools, Formen und Farbfüllungen, Effekte und Lichter lassen sich doch mit einem Klick auf den Bildschirm zaubern?
Natürlich, all das ist beim digitalen Bild möglich, genau so, wie ich ein Foto auf die unterschiedlichsten Weisen mit diesen Hilfsmitteln bearbeiten kann. Aber, im Falle des Fotos liegt der Arbeit die Mühe des Fotografen zugrunde. Bestimmt wird er nicht ein verwischtes, uninteressantes und schlecht ausgeleuchtetes Bild für eine solche Arbeit benutzen.
Nicht anders ist es mit dem digitalen Bild. Bevor ich ein digitales Bild erstellen kann, brauche ich erst die Idee, dann die Skizze und die Farbvorstellung. Dei Entstehung eines Bildes auf dem Bildschirm ist eine Arbeit mit Bruchteilen von Millimetern. Sie braucht Ausdauer, Fantasie, Ruhe und Kenntnis. Alles also, was man auch für das herkömmliche Zeichnen braucht.
Beim Leinwandbild habe ich Pinsel, Schwämmchen und mehr zur Hand, um es nach meinen Vorstellungen zu gestalten. Am Computer benutze ich Tools, die diesen Werkzeugen entsprechen. Es wird gefärbt, gewischt, schattiert, Ausdruck verliehen. All dies sind Fertigkeiten, die einem kein Computer abnehmen kann. Er stellt mir ja nur ein paar Werkzeuge zur Verfügung.
Warum habe ich mit dieser Art des Zeichnens verschrieben?
Die Ursache war eigentlich, dass eine nervliche Handerkrankung es mir nicht mehr möglich macht, lange den Pinsel zu halten. Die Maus dagegen stützt die ganze Handfläche. Also habe ich noch einmal auf den Weg des Lernens begeben. Und es macht mir Spaß. Man sollte ja nie aufhören zu lernen.
Vor allem bin ich glücklich, diesen Weg gefunden zu haben, meiner geliebten Malerei weiter zu huldigen.

Is digital drawing art?
Without doubt has digital painting meanwhile become a recognized form of art. But is it really art, to sit down at a computer and to produce a painting? There are so many tools - shapes, colours, effects, and lights can be conjured onto the screen by one click of the mouse.
Of course, all that is possible with a digital painting, just like I'm able to work on a photograph in all different ways with these tools. But in the case of a photograph the work is based on the effort of the photographer. Certainly he would not use a blurry, uninteresting, and badly illuminated picture for such work.
It isn't any different with a digital painting. Before I can create a digital painting I first need an idea, than a rough draft, and an idea of the colours. The development of a painting on the screen is work of fractions of millimetres. It needs perseverance, imagination, tranquillity, and knowledge. Therefore, everything what one needs for conventional drawing.
With a painting on canvas I have a paint brush and small sponge at hand to design it according to my idea. On the computer I use tools that correspond with those mentioned above. It will be coloured, stumped, shaded, given expression. All these are abilities that no computer can do on its own. After all, it only supplies me with a few tools.
Why have I devoted myself to this form of drawing?
The reason was actually, that an illness of the nerves in my hand made it impossible for me to hold on to a paint brush for long. The mouse, however, supports the whole palm. Therefore, I returned to the path of learning. And I'm enjoying it. After all, one should never stop learning.
Most of all I'm glad to have found this path in order to pay homage to my beloved painting.
